ARTIFICAL INTELLIGENCE & DATA PRIVACY
I introduced several bills around artificial intelligence protections, cryptocurrency regulations, and data privacy protections for Vermonters. H.370 and H.371 were two bills I introduced to limit the reach of businesses that use surveillance pricing to raise prices on consumers based on algorithms. That undermines the standards we have in place for businesses such as gas stations and fuel dealers that have to be honest and transparent about what they charge their customers.
LABOR RIGHTS
Our nation has seen decades of slow wage growth and the decline of organized labor. The average Vermont worker needs protections and rights in a globalized and highly specialized market. Unions are our best bet we have to give workers and businesses power over their own interests. In short, I supported Proposition 3 in the House and make sure every Vermonter can be successful and has the right to choose whether to organize their workplace and participate in collective bargaining agreements. I sponsored several pieces of legislation around unemployment compensation (H.295), minimum wage protections (H.713), and limits on total weekly working hours for medical professionals (H.709).
I'm proud to be endorsed by the Vermont State Employees Association (VSEA) for their work to make our state employees in rural areas like Bennington County be able to continue their work locally and keep their money in our economy!
HEALTHCARE
I was a co-sponsor of H.84 and H.112 — two bills that helped expand access to telehealth in rural communities and relieved Vermonters of over $100 million in medical debt (with an investment of $1 million.) These two bills were only the start of fixing rising costs and inaccessible healthcare. My mother worked for Novartis — one of the world’s largest pharmaceutical suppliers — and it’s simple: they’re getting away with too much. I was proud to work on H.680, reforms to primary care access, and voting YES on S.190 and the two biggest pieces of healthcare law changes in years that the Scott Administration and the Legislature championed — Act 55 and Act 68.
